2. Introduction
2.1 Background:
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health is a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, work productively, and contribute to the community. However, stress and anxiety are currently recognized as major mental health concerns worldwide, particularly among young adults and students in health-related professions. WHO reports that stress and anxiety are among the leading contributors to mental health problems globally, affecting learning ability, job performance, and overall well-being.

Nursing students are especially vulnerable to stress and anxiety due to the demanding nature of their academic and clinical training. Nursing education combines theoretical coursework with clinical practice, where students are frequently exposed to high patient acuity, heavy workload, fear of making mistakes, lack of supervision, and emotionally challenging patient interactions. These stressors can significantly impact students’ psychological health and academic performance.

Unmanaged stress and anxiety among nursing students may lead to poor concentration, decreased clinical performance, reduced confidence, burnout, and long-term mental health problems. Academic pressure, clinical responsibilities, evaluation anxiety, and adjustment to hospital environments further intensify their stress levels. If not properly addressed, these factors may negatively affect not only students’ personal well-being but also the quality of patient care and the overall healthcare system.

Therefore, early identification, assessment, and appropriate intervention strategies are essential to prevent adverse mental health outcomes. Assessing the level of stress and anxiety among nursing students during clinical practice is crucial for promoting mental well-being, enhancing academic success, and ensuring quality nursing education and patient care.
2.2 Problem Statement:
"A study to assess stress and anxiety among nursing students during clinical practice."
2.3 Problem Justification:
Stress and anxiety are common mental health problems that affect young adults, including nursing students. During clinical practice, nursing students face heavy workload, fear of making mistakes, and high expectations, which increase stress and anxiety levels. WHO states that unmanaged stress and anxiety can negatively affect learning ability, mental well-being, and quality of patient care. Therefore, assessing stress and anxiety among nursing students during clinical practice is essential for early identification and prevention.
2.4 Research Questions:
Is there a significant level of stress and anxiety among nursing students during clinical practice?
Hypothesis (HD): There is a significant association between stress and anxiety levels and selected demographic variables.
2.5 General Objective:
To assess the level of stress and anxiety among nursing students during clinical practice.
2.6 Specific Objectives:
  1. To determine socio-demographic anxiety characteristics of the participant.
  2. To determine the level of stress.
  3. To identify factors contributing to stress and anxiety during clinical practice.
  4. To find the association between stress, anxiety, and selected demographic variables of nursing students.
